EmotionFit Mental Health Providers: Expert Care You can Trust

Let’s work together to get our patients the holistic care they deserve

The Role of Emotional Factors in Unexplained Symptoms

In both conventional and alternative medicine, it’s common to encounter patients who continue to experience symptoms despite receiving the best available treatments. These symptoms vary widely and may include phsycial pain, neurological issues, digestive problems, addictive behaviors, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, and more. When these symptoms persist despite standard treatments, or when there’s no clear medical explanation for them, it often suggests underlying emotional causes.

The human nervous system has a tendency to manifest unresolved emotions through physical symptoms, unhealthy coping mechanisms like addiction, or destructive thought patterns. However, suppressing these emotions is not a long-term solution and can contribute to or worsen patients’ physical and behavioral issues.

This is where EmotionFit comes in. We specialize in working with patients who present with these complex symptoms. Through Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), we aim to address the underlying emotional causes of their symptoms. By helping patients fully experience and process their emotions, we aim to alleviate the need for these maladaptive patterns, leading to improved overall well-being.

Recognizing the emotional factors affecting your patients is crucial but linking them to the right resources can be a hurdle. If you have any inquiries or would like to schedule a virtual meet-the-team session, please reach out to us via email at info@emotionfit.us or call or text our office at 760.440.5005.

Chronic and Medically Unexplained Pain

Symptoms such as tinnitus, dizziness, ear pain, headaches, migraines, brain fog, muscle and joint pain, and IBS/stomach pain that persist despite medical intervention can be caused or worsened by psychological, emotional, and nervous-system-related pain. See the links below for more information on how EmotionFit uses ISTDP to work with these patients as well as for a script that incorporates validating language to use when connecting your patients to psychological help.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorders

Exposure Response-Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focus on addressing the symptoms of OCD, such as compulsions and persistent, repetitive thoughts. This initial treatment is vital for stabilizing patients and enabling them to function better. However, the root anxiety driving these symptoms often requires deeper treatment to achieve complete healing and sustained progress. Once your client's functioning has stabilized, and they're ready for the next level of work, EmotionFit is available to help. Check out the provided links for details on our approach and guidance on discussing next steps with your clients.

Addiction

The most common reason for substance use or addiction is to try to cope with internal distress. Trying to stop the behavior without addressing this internal distress can often be difficult and ineffective. At EmotionFit, we help patients address the internal pain and emotional dysregulation that lies at the root of their attempts to detach, numb, or avoid, thereby easing the path of recovery and reducing the risk of relapse.

Stated another way, many patients grappling with addiction face additional mental health challenges, which can hinder their ability to maintain recovery. If you notice your patients struggling with these challenges, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, or other mental health issues, EmotionFit can address the underlying emotions and traumatic experiences which drive these symptoms and addictive urges. By tackling these root issues, patients can achieve more sustainable long-term recovery. See below for more information on the evidence-base for ISTDP which is particularly effective for reducing cravings. A Provider Script is also available to help you talk with your patients about the recommendation for additional support.
