Faith-Based Counseling
Faith-Based Counseling:
Therapy focused on incorporating your mental health with your faith background.
Integrates faith values into the treatment of the clinical work.
Uses emotional work to help “beliefs in the head” become “felt in the heart.”
Deepens a sense of meaning, purpose, and identity.
Helps address spiritual distortions which can worsen symptoms and prevent deeper healing.
When it comes to the biggest questions about our life and purpose, most people look to their faith for answers.
So naturally, when they look for a therapist, they want to find someone who can understand and incorporate their faith into their clinical work—someone who can speak the language of their faith background, and help guide them towards the goals of their faith.
Some people are weary of going to a therapist without this. They don’t want someone influencing them in a direction that doesn’t align with their values.
And when therapy works to make deep, unconscious changes, it’s important that these values between therapist and patient line up.
Our Specialty:
At EmotionFit, we specialize in helping you think about your problems from a faith-based lens, and to come up with solutions that align with your deepest-held values.
DISCLAIMER: This isn’t a requirement for treatment, and we tend to take your lead when it comes to integrating your faith into your treatment. It’s not our job to impose any beliefs or values onto you. It’s our job to help you become your fullest self, and what that means depends on what’s most important in your life.
So we’ll talk with you about your faith, how your faith impacts how you understand your problems, and how it guides your thinking about a cure. We’ll help you understand how emotional processes and nervous-system factors can impair a person’s ability to “feel” what they know to be true.
Rather than just telling you that you are supposed to trust and believe, we’ll help you see where your heart isn’t lining up with your head, and we’ll help you overcome emotional blocks or barriers which are standing in the way.
Faith and Cultural-Sensitivity:
As therapists, we are trained in cultural-sensitivity, where we honor your cultural background and how it informs your identity and values.
Faith is a big part of one’s cultural background, so we listen for those themes.
While we won’t always share your cultural or faith background exactly, we promise to always be sensitive and respectful, and to guide your treatment with these concerns in mind.
Christian Counseling:
We have therapists who come from a Christian background and have special education and training in integrating Christian values into the therapy. We specialize in Christian counseling as well as faith-based therapy for those looking to blend their spiritual journey with mental health.
With Christian clients, we see therapy as one of many ways the Holy Spirit works in us and forms us. And we see ourselves as partnering with the Holy Spirit’s sanctifying work in your life. So we listen together to the Spirit’s leading and we try to follow Him in the midst of the work.
And when it feels like God or the Spirit is absent, we help you process the emotional barriers or traumas that prevent you from sensing His presence, so that you can experience the fullness and richness and depth your faith has to offer.
The truth of the Christian faith is that you are loved, forgiven, and saved out of darkness. For those who have experienced depression, anxiety, and other psychological symptoms, you know how dark those places can be.
You weren’t created for that. It’s not your fault. And God is not punishing you.
But we know it can feel that way sometimes. So let us help you find the barriers that are distorting the truth, so you can live more fully in line with your true nature.
