Depression

Depression:

  • Feeling “down” in your mood, and associated with fatigue, negativity, and lack of motivation, enjoyment, and passion.

  • Caused by internalized feelings

  • Triggered by events or relationships

  • Leads to symptoms and impairments in functioning and relationships.

  • Cured by processing feelings outward

Have you ever felt emotionally like you were swimming against a current? Like everything takes an incredible amount of effort and no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to feel any better?

It doesn’t matter how much others encourage you, and how much you try to think positively, it just doesn’t do any good. And even though you are exhausted, you never seem to get enough rest.

This is what it’s like to be depressed, and it can be demoralizing.

What’s worse is that this discouragement often spirals downward. The negativity and hopelessness builds. The emotional weight increases. And the fatigue compounds.

This can lead to chronic depressive episodes which impair our functioning, ability to work, and relationships.

Symptoms include:

  • Negative thinking (hopelessness, helplessness, catastrophic thoughts, self-criticism, self-hatred, suicidal thoughts)

  • Compulsive behaviors (self-destructive or suicidal actions, addiction, numbing, avoidance, isolation, oversleeping, not getting out of bed, giving up)

  • Somatic issues (chronic fatigue, gut/bowel issues, irritable bowel syndrome, weakness, somatic dysfunction)

  • Disruptions in perception/sensation or the ability to think clearly (numbness/tingling, confusion, narcolepsy, passing out)

Common associated diagnoses:

  • Major Depressive Disorder

  • Persistant Depressive Disorder

  • Bipolar I and II Disorders

  • Cyclothymic Disorder

  • Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder

  • Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

So what can we do?

At EmotionFit, we don’t just tell you to swim harder. We teach you to reverse the current.

We help you identify the emotions that are being blocked or internalized, and we show you how to process those emotions outward.

Experiencing and releasing these emotions not only relieves your symptoms of depression therapy, but helps you harness the natural benefits of your emotions.

When your emotions are being processed correctly, your thoughts and energy will naturally follow. You’ll think clearly, you’ll feel motivated, and you’ll do what you can to move your life forward, creating positive momentum which will snowball your mood in the right direction.

For those facing added struggles, we also provide anxiety therapy, OCD therapy, and couples therapy to help you overcome various emotional and relational challenges.
